One dead in U.S. Gulf of Mexico platform explosion

An explosion at a Fieldwood Energy operated platform in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico killed one contractor and injured at least one another person Thursday.
The blast happened around 3:00 p.m. local time on the Echo Platform located at West Delta 105 facility, about 12 miles off the coast of New Orleans.
An unnamed contractor was killed by the explosion and at least one more contractor was seriously injured, Fieldwood said.
The U.S Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said three people were injured and were sent to an onshore hospital for treatment.
The platform was not in production at the time of the accident, the U.S Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said.
Damage was limited to the explosion area and no spills were reported.
“This was an isolated indent that has been fully contained,” Houston-based Fieldwood said.
The company it is still looking into the incident.
