New US bill to speed up decarbonisation goals
The renewables industry in the United States has welcomed a new bill aimed at expediting electrical infrastructure permitting.
Senator Joe Manchin has introduced legislation that supporters claim will help speed up the transmission approval process.
According to the American Council on Renewable Energy, if the laws are passed, they will improve the nation’s ability to meet its decarbonization goals by better connecting key renewable resources to the largest population centres.
The council said, “We know we need to expand and upgrade the nation’s electrical grid to fully realize the renewable energy growth expected under the Inflation Reduction Act.
“Yet, it remains very difficult to get new transmission lines sited, permitted and built in this country, with successful efforts rare and typically taking more than a decade.
“We look forward to working with members of Congress to move these important policies into law and help our nation forward on its path to a clean energy future.”
