Appolonia City launches solar strategy with Axcon Energy solar farm

Axcon Energy Limited will supply solar power to residents of Appolonia City, as part of the new city’s renewable energy strategy for homeowners and businesses.

As part of its agreement with Appolonia City, Axcon Energy will design, build, commission, operate and maintain a 5MW solar farm.

Appolonia City CEO Bright Owusu-Amofah said, “Part of Appolonia City’s unique proposition in Ghana is to provide world-class utility service to its residents. Our agreement with Axcon Energy comfortably satisfy load growth and provide clean and reliable power to our industrial and residential clients.”

Appolonia City already receives supply from the national grid via a 33kv overhead line, serving a dedicated 60MVA primary substation. The new solar farm will augment this power supply, with further substations planned as the city grows.

Appolonia City is a 2,325-acre (941-hectare) inclusive mixed-use new city in Greater Accra. A seamless live-play-work community, Appolonia City offers homes, offices, shopping, schools, healthcare and ample parks and open spaces.

Axcon Energy Limited is a clean and renewable energy solutions expert. It specializes in Design, Installation, and Maintenance of industrial electrical systems, without polluting the environment or depleting the earth’s limited resources.

CEO of Axcon Energy, Pascal Siamey said, “We are excited to deliver clean and renewable energy solutions for Appolonia City. We admire the city’s concept of retaining 25% of its land for public open spaces and conservation areas and will complement this by providing clean electricity.”

In October, Appolonia City was awarded “Best Mixed-use Development in Africa” at the Africa Property Investment Summit and has led the way in delivering innovative urban solutions.

MainOne, the leading commercial data centre provider in West Africa, recently announced it is building a new data centre at Appolonia Industrial Park, within Appolonia City.
